Splog“About 1 in 5 blogs on Googles Blogger is a spam blog” says Wikipedia. That is a sad statistic, that means that for every good solid blog that someone has put lots of time into and wrote lots of content for and simply made it their own personal blog there is five spam blogs made too, all taking up valuable disk space, bandwidth and also polluting all the search engines.  These blogs are useless in so many ways but first let’s get to what a Splog is.

The word Splog is short for Spam Blog, and the main intent of a splog is to load the blog up with links so that when a link is clicked the owner gets some kind of benefit. Now that benefit can be money, increased page ranks, a sale, pretty much anything that would be good for the creator of the splog. Spam blogs usually do not have any human made content, these blogs are usually scraper sites that do not create their own content they merely steal content from other sites or use their own computer generated content. Splogs rarely have lots of human written content and are made up very quickly. This is bad because computer generated content is useless, you need human writing like for example the site you’re on right now (Your Net Success in case you forgot!) has ALL human made content that has been written by myself Curtis Nyb, I have written every word and tested each product I promote to ensure the site is made of my honesty. Spam blogs simply are none of that.

How to spot a spam blog:

A spam blog is usually a little bit of content packed with links to whatever they are selling or promoting. Lorelle VanFossen says it best when she says that the best way to spot a spam blog is when things on the blog just do not add up. The content doesn’t match the title, the links don’t match the content of the post, there is articles that do not make sense. Things like that are the best ways to spot a spam blog. This is easy to spot because spam blogs have no content of their own it is all computer generated resulting in posts that just don’t make sense. Also when things are out of proportion such as the number of posts per month or it is all made of feeds. Just keep an eye out for these sort of things when cruising around different blogs, especially free blogging services (there is lots of blogspot spam). If you happen to find a spam blog you need to report it, that is the only way to help stop spam blogs.

Where to report splogs/spam blogs:

There are several places to report spam blogs:

Report Splogs to Google, Let the biggest search engine know if you believe you found a splog.

FightSplog.com has a good list of several places to report spam blogs.

Or you can contact Yahoo if you believe your work has been copied and it is copyright infringment, let Yahoo know about it.

Contact one of these sites at least and let them know that you think you have found a splog site because spam isn’t good for anything and if we all report splogs we find we can eliminate spam blogs for good.

We have the power and technology to stop the invasion of splogs!
