Is This A Scam? How To Tell Fake Products And Scam Sites
I am often asked the question, how do you tell if something might be a scam?
Well there are several different things you need to think about. Does the offer promise you money that seems too good to be true? Use scare tactics to try and make you impulse buy? Doesn’t give you a physical address or contact? Doesn’t go over payment methods? Does it ask you for money and tell you to enter into draws for prizes and such? These are all just a few of the questions asked when trying to figure out if something is a scam or not.
Basically when something is a scam, they give you the exact opposite of what they promised you. In the end you end up with nothing wondering is it a scam? That’s why I will go over each of the questions above and explain in a little more detail.
Do they ask for personal information? Credit card numbers? Passwords? Social security numbers? NEVER give out any of this information online, Credit card numbers should be handled by trustworthy companies like Paypal when buying with them online. If a site asks that you give them any confidential information turn and run. Do not give them information even if it says it is required, leave the site immediately if you are asked to give out this personal information.
Does the offer promise things that seem too good to be true? Although this is a very effective marketing technique, good internet marketers will promise you things that usually are very believable, but sometimes they feed you a lie and tell you an untrue number and show you a photoshopped picture or some stats. This does not necessarily mean it is a scam though, because almost every single thing that is being sold and advertised in this world is being exaggerated on the package or on the commercial. It is just a marketing technique that to me means the marketers are trying too hard when they really blow the offer out of proportion. Just try to avoid listening to their claims if they seem to untrue, but this does not mean it is a scam if you see this.
Do they use scare tactics to try and make you impulse buy? This once again does not right away mean it is a scam because it is also an effective marketing method by creating that sense of “Urgency” people will listen to and buy. This is just simply them marketing their product when you see things like “Hurry and purchase now before the last 211 150 are gone!” These are claims trying to make you purchase the product faster, and you should not worry when you see this sort of thing. BUT when they start making outrageous claims like “You will have bad luck forever if you do not purchase in the next hour!” That’s when you should start to be thinking that you might be dealing with a scam and leave the site.
There is no physical address or email contact?
This is not acceptable when doing business online. You need to be able to contact the seller and ask questions about his/her product before you purchase, and if they do not have any contact information you should not buy the product. This is one of the key indicators of a Scam, they do not give you contact information or they give you fake information.
They don’t give you the payment information? Very possible it is a Scam! A good product will always tell you the payment methods, ways to confirm the payment and email/telephone notifications, if these are absent when you are looking at the product do not buy the product. Payment information is crucial when purchasing online because there are so many ways to buy online, so make sure they give you the payment information.
Ask you to enter into draws trying to get you to spend more money? This is also another indicator of a scam, when you enter a site to buy something and they keep directing you to more sites that ask for more money or for you to spend money on entering a draw or other things. If you purchase a product and it just leads to more sites asking for you to spend more money, that is a key indicator of a scam.
So really you just need to listen and stick with your gut feeling about a site or product, do not purchase it if it does not feel right. Also be sure to read lots of reviews on a product and make the purchase on the vendor’s site. There are several methods of payment that are very safe such as Paypal and Clickbank products are very secure. Clickbank products have the Clickbank order form when you go to purchase which is 100% secure and all Clickbank products have a 60 day money back guarantee so you can always return something you dislike for a full refund. Also Paypal will give you up to $10,000 that have been lost during a fraudulent sale. So there are several ways to make sure you are secure when buying on the internet.
Ask questions, read reviews and stick with your gut feeling and you will be fine! Hope this guide helps you out, Be safe and have fun!
